The joys of being a boss....

Hi Gang:
  As most of you know I am a supervisor of a small crew for a cleaning company that cleans a big deptartment store here in my town.  The job is not great, and it is by far not glamerous, but I take pride in it, and make sure my workers do too.

I had a expereince yesterday that I thought was worth posting about, as it was comical.

It was about 8:15am, and I am making my rounds thru the store when I see the cleaning cart still outside the bathrooms. By this time usually in the day "Matt" is done with the bathrooms, and the cart is put away.  I dont become to concerned at first and figured he must be finishing up inside one of the rooms.

I began to vacuum an area close to the bathrooms, and waited for Matt to come out, so I could speak with him about what I needed him to work on next.
Twenty minutes go by and still no Matt.  Hmmm. I shut my vacuum off, and approach the ladies rest room, and push open the door.  No Matt. I proceed to the Mens room, push open the door, and there is Matt. Sound asleep, yet standing up. 

I know it scared him cause I heard a little noise escape his lips as he awoke enough to realize he was face to face with his boss, who just caught him sleeping on the job.

I say "Matt, what are you working on?"  Matt replies ever so honestly "Nothing."


We all know what it is like to be awoke suddenly. Our brain just doesnt function as it should and sometimes we say things we shouldn't. lol

I gave Matt a shake of my head , and went about my work.

I went on  vacuuming, and Matt was quite eager to get back to work too.  He flew around that place as I have never seen him do before.  As if he could work so fast he could go back in time and reverse what had just happened.

Matt is a young kid, and usually works pretty fair. I didn't make to much of the situation, as it has never happened before.  Something tells me it wont happen again. HAHA

Oh, the joys of being a boss.  (wink)

Was he actually asleep standing upright?  That's incredible if he was.

Wow - I've never seen that before.  I have heard about people falling asleep standing up and it amazes me that they don't fall over.  He must have been like that for at least 20 minutes then.

LOL, To funny, poor kid, but I can tell you this from being a boss myself for over 20 years before I retired, That kid "Matt" is telling everyone what a great boss you are, because you didn't make a big deal about it. And you are right, I am sure he will never let it happen again.

I can imagine the panic he must have felt when he awoke and saw you in front of him and I can truly visualize it. 

I hope he never does it again Pam - I'm sure he won't.
