Hello friend:
Quitting smoking is the hardest thing I ever did, but it is NOT impossible.
If you really want to quit there are many steps you can take.
The "cold Turkey" idea never worked for me, so I went to my doctor and got on Chantix, and it worked wonders for me. I am now 6 months smoke free.
The cost of ciogarettes is outrageous I know.
Quitting was the best thing I ever did.
If you decide to quit, let me know, and I'll give you any advice I can.

Maybe i should try call doctor for some meds to kill the worst cravings to smoke, cause ive tried chewinggum before and that dident help at all just got sick instead and tbh most of those products cost more than actually smoking which is stupid cause ive heard of people getting hooked on these products instead so you gain nothing.
Tried the "cold turkey" a few times the past months but rarely last more than 2-3days tops, but this time i gotta hang in there cause i really want to quit mostly for my health but for the money also ofc when your doing 25-30 a day its a costly "hobby". -

I tried Wellbutrin once..they tell you to keep smoking for 10 days. Well by day 8 when I puffed on a cigarette it was pointless because it felt like the filter had a hole or something. Wellbutrin takes away the sensations of smoking or something. It worked for a month or so but I missed smoking I guess but it was really easy to quit.
Congrats PMM on quitting 6 months ago! -

It may not work for everyone, but after trying the "drugs" and cold turkey I bought the N-JOY electronic cigarette. It's great and it worked for me. When I feel like puffing I can without all the nasties that are in real cigs. You can get different levels of nicotine. My first was full strength but now I'm down to ultra mild. Love the Fr. Vanilla and the menthol. Reg is also available. Bought them online at their site. My husband and doctor are thrilled and I can "smoke" anywhere because there is no secondhand smoke. Check them out. I looked at several other varieties but I like this one. A whole lot cheaper than cigs. New York state is now over $10 a pack. you gotta love new york. Good luck.

Been looking at those electronic cigarettes but they are close to $100 and the tobacco is pretty pricy also here, and then again its money to buy another product instead just fell's like another evil circle to start on to stop another addiction i want to be free of all of this just thinking having $250-350 a month for something else would be amazing.

I know what you mean about the cost of a pack. I roll my own just like geneco. I have a cigaretty factory!
I need to quit also, but since quitting all the other evils in my life, smoking is tooooooooo hard for me right now.
Good luck to you, and I hope you come back and post that you are smoke free!

My Mom quit a 30 year habit using Chantex. She quit in 3 months and it has now been three years. When the rest of our family are all outside puffing my Mom is in the house breathing her fresh air. I forget that she ever smoked. I have smoked since the day I started. I wish I would have quit when my husband did....too bad my sister and I continued to smoke around him...he started back a year later. You would think the cigarettes would taste better because they cost more.......but mine taste worse.

Well, I've hesitated posting about this before because I'm a hard-core smoker, but if it helps convince one of you to quit now, then I'll be glad I did this.
I'm sitting in a hospital bed as I type this - slowly, because of the oxygen monitor on my finger - in here for the 2nd time in the last 18 months with my COPD/Asthma.
I've been smoking 34 yrs, and developed severe asthma 16 yrs ago; the COPD set in a few years ago. I'm only 53 & have horrendous lungs, with my lungs operating at a 12 -30% of normal range, depending on what part of my lungs you're talking about.
No sympathy please - I smoked knowing the risks. Even now I can't quit completely - I love my smoking as much as I love my gambling. ;)
But, my daily life is measured in steps these days - do I have enough air to make it to the kitchen & back without doing my nebulizer first? Or take the dogs out to the potty? Or take a shower & wash my hair? Does the store I want to go to have electric carts?
Everything, everything, in my life is dictated by how well my lungs are working that day, and that changes on a day-to-day basis. If I get the smallest flu or cold, I end up here.
So the point of this is, if you are capable of quitting, you probably should do it. -

FYI...
Gram for gram, nicotine is by far the most addictive alkaloid.
'Alkaloids' are a group of psychoactive substances derived from plants; and typically have the suffix "-ine."
i.e. caffe-ine, nicot-ine, coca-ine, morh-ine, hero-ine, ephedr-ine, amphetam-ine, methamphetam-ine
Don't you find it ironic how nicotine, being as addictive as it is and killing hundreds of thousands of lives a year, is the most socially acceptable and legal?
Welcome to the good life - just smoke weed.j/k
Good luck to all you trying to quit. I know how difficult it is...but if I can do it, you can do it too! -

Me and my husband are off 2 months......used the patch....tried chantix but I didn't like it...to each his own.
At around 2.5 packs a day each, living in NY, we calculate savings of around $1,200 a month...that's before the latest hike......that's half my mortgage!!
Good luck all......I feel great though it's not always easy. But well worth it. -

My dh smokes, and he conned me into buying a pack for him the other day- I have a strict 'I don't smoke it I don't buy it' policy, but I did it. Big mistake for him. I paid $8.50 for that pack of cigarettes. In a gas station. He buys a pack a day, or every other day. I told him later on, in a very 'I'm not nagging you to quit' voice, that I am now going back to my daily mochas since i can buy 3 for the price of his cigarettes and we were supposed to be being careful with money.
He says he wants to do Chantix, and I saw an electric cigaretted in the mall the other day that's supposed to help too. Anyone ever tried that? -

I smoked for 37 years but last year when Florida once again increased the price again....I quit. I guess I am just too cheap to pay $60.00 a carton. I used the patch and only for 2 1/2 weeks. I never thought I would have the ability but so far so good. I feel for everyone who is trying so hard to quit, I know how hard it is. Good luck to all..

I have been smoking for 35 years and I am having problems with my health now. Not sure yet if it is my lungs or heart but I am having tests done. I have been looking into the e-cigarettes and I think that is the best choice for me. I talked to some one that is using the blu-cig and is having really good results. All the reviews I have read are good and the cost is cheaper than most. I think it is around 59.00 for the starter kit which includes everything you need plus an extra charger. Because of a history of blackouts my doctor is hesitant to give me the prescriptions so maybe this is my answer. The patches didn't work for me. I smoke when I am really stressed so that will be the hardest part for me.
