    Hiya Members,

    In the second quarter of 2010 over $4.21 million was spent by 43 special interest groups in their support or opposition to the issue. This was a slight increase from $4.2 million spent in the first quarter of the year by 36 interest groups.

    80.1% of the total spent was done so by pro-online gambling groups, while 4.1% was spent by those who are against it. The rest was spent by those neutral on the issue.

    Harrah’s Entertainment paid over $1 million to support the passage of Barney Frank’s HR 2267 bill which could see the legalization and regulation of internet gaming in the United States. The group spent a similar amount in the first quarter of the year.
    Other groups such as the Poker Players Alliance and the UC Group spent $450,000 and $487,690 respectively.

    Mastercard also boosted its lobbying efforts by 143.6% to $333K in the second quarter of the year.

    Let's hope they have enough muscle to turn this around. Any predictions from members when and if this ban will be lifted?

    Sounds encouraging, Lips.  American bettors will be able to play in the more upstanding casinos.  There may even be competition from American casinos going online.  (imagine Harrahs offering comp points or the Las Vegas Luxor online?)
