Im gobsmacked about Cameron  resigning and I'm not sure about the long term effects of the exit.  I guess only time will tell.

Wow only 51.9% for BREXIT. such a small margin.  but the British people voted and it is a democratic process.

this was bit of s shocker TBH.  All the polls and bookies were giving the "remain vote" a slight lead.

most of Scotland has voted remain. But now as a consequence of brexit Nicola Sturgeon calls for the 2nd Scottish independence referendum.

I dont know, seems like EU downfall has started. I mean, British have been in EU since it started, but now, other "big" countries might consider leaving aswell. And about Scotland, this is perfect time for the people who want independence to start campaign about it again since most of the Scottish people voted to stay in EU.

I am in shock quite a bit as well. I didn't think it would actually happen and there will definitely be many disadvantages and we'll see how this all will go, as it is not that simple to leave EU.

Well that turned out unexpected. All polls before voting said that they are staying in European Union. It will be interesting to see what will happend to EU in the next few years, Italians already started gathering signs for their own referendum.

I have followed the campaign and I'm quite sad to see that the side which relied on fearmongering and half-truths eventually won. Democracy ftw.

I have to say that I'm also quite shocked. Saddening news. I've seen some maps, and England specifically voted Leave, quite opposite to Scotland. The next few years are going to be intriguing.

As we can see from statistics, british grannies decided for young people. What a shame. I didnt think that grannies and dumb people can overcome young and clear minded people. Now lets USA vote for Trump and we will have the end of the world...

Yup, that's democracy. Eventho it sounds great in theory,  in practice it becomes stupid once in a while. My only problem with that is that votes count equally, so some rocket scientist has the same influence as some mentally limited person

I think the main responsibility goes to mainstream media, they are doing everything they can to dumb things down in order to get a wider audience with less of an effort. This has been going on for decades in the Western world, I guess we're beginning to see the results now.

not sure why everyone is freaking out. EU has been on decline for years and will continue to sink.

i wont lose much sleep over it

Dow Jones down over 600 points just because of the Brexit vote. The Dow had a 300+ day the day before. Hard to believe the American dollar is flying so high with the trillions in debt we have. Could be that we have a hundred trillion in assets to use to pay off that debt.

I'm sure people are freaking out because this( together with everything else that's been happening lately) may lead to war and other horrible things to happen worldwide.

The vote has been really close but i cant understand why so many people want to leave the EU. Especially most of the older people voted to leave the EU and many young people wanted to stay, so the older people voted for something that the younger people will have to deal with in the future...

I think that after everything what happened in last days they just cant stay.

Article 50 still needs to be invoked yet....

at this point it is out of UK's hands.

Zuga, only the UK can invoke article 50. And at the moment we are in political crisis, so I cant see it any time soon. Lots of protest, lots calling for 2nd referendum (it should never have been a public referendum in the first place, its governments job to make important life changing/economic changing decisions that we are not privvy to all the facts on) x

mamt35 is right, the EU can't kick out any of its members. Only the UK can invoke article 50, then the process will get started and that will be the point of no return. Right now it all depends on what happens on the British political stage, it could get quite complicated.

IMO, UK will have no choice but to invoke article 50. The messages sent by EU officials are clear, and the UK people has spoken. You cant go against the will of the people. Otherwise it will create a precedent when it comes to all future referendums and create more political instability within UK itself.

I do believe that England's people have spoke they don't want to be part o f EU good on them go England and secure your  borders before there is no more England.  Open borders suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Article 50 will be invoked, I wasnt saying it wouldnt, i said I couldnt see it any time soon, not until the political crisis is over. Cameron doesn't stand down until October. As for borders, it is far more complicated, especially if we are wanting to stay in the single market, and the council of europe.

But single market rocks! And you can't have one without the other

Very grateful that the 600 point DOW loss caused by Brexit has been recovered within one week.

Brexit hasnt happened yet...Im afraid for Uk business its still not good (eapecially building trade, property market, and small independent businesses), not all of the markets depend on our good fortune...take a closer look at the changes to UK reliant/resident stocks/shares....I dont look much at the markets to be honest, it can change in a moment, depending on reports etc. Most of our politicians say they want to stay in single market (gives a boost) however I think that will be difficult (as will be found out at negotiation point)  Plus while in political crisis BoE has said on Thursday it is going to be cutting interest rates while market is turbulent, so everything at the moment is not as it will be.....

I dont think anybody can know right now what will happen..hopefully all will settle, but its not something id willing stake my money on...

If people are interested in a more robust view of how UK business is doing the FTSE 250 is a better indicator than the FTSE 100 (as the FTSE 250 has more British owned/reliant companies whereas the 100 has more international aswell)

I think that UK people already understand what they did. No one is fault, only you. All the world is making fun of Brexit and these people deserved that. Not every farmer can decide political problems! I just wish Scotland, North Ireland to leave - UK as soon as possible.

Great news! As a staunch pro-european myself, I think this is the best solution for Europe. Charles de Gaulle was definitely right about the UK. Good luck to them We are now about to revive the good old Europe without them, at last! Despite the criticisms against the EU, European bureaucracy is sometimes better and more efficient than short-sighted national politics like the ones proposed by Ukeep ans such. We can see it now with, I'm sad to admit, a touch of Schadenfreude...

And just to put people straight on the 'democracy' ...the UK vote on brexit consisted of England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Gibraltar (all governed by UK)  the results as follows... England  53.4%-46.6% (leave), Wales 52.5%- 47.5% (leave) Scotland 62%-38% (remain) Northern Ireland 55.8% - 44.2% (remain)  gibraltar 95.9% - 4.1% (remain) .....Because England and Wales have the largest population of the UK, does that mean they rule over the other nations??? even their majorities were not as substantial...make of it what you will!!! But it looks like a brexit for all down to 2 of the 5 (oh and a 72% turnout which is still not all the nation) x

Lithuanian news announced about many cases in UK like these:1. English women forced her 10years old boy to beat his classmate who is lithuanian; 2. English guy in a brutal way said to lithuanian girl: leave UK now bitch, we have voted.
  These things shows that England is a country of the third world and i'm glad now that these butheads leaving our friendly EU community.

No, no, and no. I think this is a new beginning for Europe. The EU safeguards human rights (gay rights, minority rights, no death penalty), enables people to study anywhere in Europe (Erasmus), helps restore historic buildings or build roads, deals with foreign powers as a block... The EU lacks direct democracy, that's a fact. But instead of throwing the EU away, we should try to understand how it works, and make it more efficient.


I don't want a referendum in my country. I realize that people here want to get rid of the EU as well, but have no clue about the EU: what it does for them, how they benefit from it on a daily basis. This is ridiculous. The peoples are not always right. Tabloids, nationalisms, ignorance and short-sighted politics are wreaking havoc...

Be clever, don't trust over simplistic remedies and think for yourselves.

That's what comes with people power: anything can happen as long as it's for the good of the people. Who expected the few opposing the bill to win? That's why Cameron chose the most mature option to resign.
