Weirdest Pedicure I Ever Had!

I had a fish pedicure yesterday. It's actually a very gross concept but this is popping up everywhere lately so I just had to try it.

These little Garra Rufa fish, toothless carp, munch on the dead skin on your feet. Yuck! I tried it anyway. I put my tootsies in a tank of 120 fish and they swarm your feet. I mean it looked like I was wearing socks. It tickled like crazy for the first five minutes or so.

Those little fishies did a pretty good job. This spa does parties in the evenings with all kinds of beauty treatments. OMG add a bottle of wine to the mix and it would be a great time.

As with practically everything there is potential for issues with health and safety. This place does check you out for open sores.

Have you or would you try this?

I have seen this in a shop not far from me and I have to say, I've not really considered it.  I guess it must have been a very strange but different experience Froggy.

Anything nibbling on my feet would send me in a tailspin.

One woman, as serious as she could be, asked if they were piranhas. My gosh, you'd be nothing but bones 

Piranhas, HAHA.  But seriously, the whole idea of idea of it grosses me out.  I don't know why, but fish are so gross to me.

Well blue, she did look at her like she had five heads. 

I've seen such a thing on TV, I wouldn't put my feet in there unless I had a gun pointed at me! I admire you ladies for enduring such treatments...

Oh Johnny it's not that bad. It's more of an issue for me to get over the fact that fish are eating dead skin. It makes me nauseous. There are some beauty treatments that I wouldn't do unless there was a gun to my head. Any injections into my face would be one of them.

I guess nobody asked the fish if they like dead skin or not but I guess they do if they eat it. But don't they tickle you while doing their job?

Looked it up and found some info on this whole thing.

Doctor fish is the name given to two species of fish: Garra rufa and Cyprinion macrostomus. Other nicknames include nibble fish, kangal fish, physio fish and doctorfishen; in non-medical contexts, Garra rufa is called the reddish log sucker. They live and breed in the outdoor pools of some Turkish spas, where they feed on the skin of patients with psoriasis. The fish are like combfishes in that they only consume the affected and dead areas of the skin, leaving the healthy skin to grow, with the outdoor location of the treatment bringing beneficial effects. The spas are not meant as a curative treatment option, only as a temporary alleviation of symptoms, and patients usually revisit the spas every few months.

The practice is banned in several American states and Canadian provinces as cosmetology regulators believe the practice is unsanitary.

I could see how it would be banned for health and safety reasons. I had mine done in the UK too. Thanks for the info Tommy 

By the way, what did you think of your fish pedicure? 

I must be a real old fashioned since I have never seen or heard of it before.
As fascinating as it sounds, I don't think I will ever try it because I too have exceedingly ticklish footsies. 

I guess it's better than having maggots eat away your infected or rotten skin, which they do in hospitals, when needed.  And they say it's very sanitary, the maggots.  They only eat the rotten dead stuff, also, and some people I guess would die without the treatment.  Worm bait, either way.
