  • Hiya Guys and Dolls,

I think we can all agree we love music! Its not only about the rhythm but it is the lyrics that can touch us so much. I thought it would be fun to list songs with lyrics that we can't figure out what they mean or lyrics that touch us deeply.

In memory of the late great George Jones who passed away today here is one song that is a real tear jerker. It took me a minute to figure out what he meant by "they placed a wreath upon his door". But once i did wow..........

My mom was originally from the south and loved this legendary country singer. Here is the song and lyrics:

    He Stopped Loving Her Today

He said I'll love you 'til I die
She told him you'll forget in time
As the years went slowly by
She still preyed upon his mind

He kept her picture on his wall
Went half crazy now and then
He still loved her through it all
    Hoping she'd come back again

Kept some letters by his bed
    Dated 1962
    He had underlined in red
    Every single I love you

I went to see him just today
Oh but I didn't see no tears
All dressed up to go away
First time I'd seen him smile in years

    (Chorus)
    He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
    He stopped loving her today

    (Spoken)
You know she came to see him one last time
Oh and we all wondered if she would
And it kept running through my mind
This time he's over her for good

  • I know! I know! But you know I know lips so I won't spoil it. RIP George Jones. sad

  • I guess the wreath will be on his door today!!
    A great loss to music!!

  • RIP, he was and will be a legend.

  • Been listening to some of the Possum today. So sad but he left us with some great music.

  • I have a friend from Georgia and he loves listening to George Jones. May he rest in peace.

I know that he was married with Tammy Wynette.... she was a great singer, too.

  • Yessssssss the rumor is that was the real love of his life. But did anyway get the lyrics that the reason he stopped loving her was that he died. It took me a couple times to get that duhhhh but once i did i was like omggggg tear jerker city!

  • Amazing lyrics and singer...a sad loss.  I had to think hard about it too Lips but got there in the end.

    blue

  • agree  sad

  • A real loss to the musical world, but he left behind music that will be passed on through generation to generation. I too grew up on that kind of music and when I have children so will they, in hopes of keeping true icons like this alive. An there is nothing better than this song after a bad break-up!  :'(

  • Misery loves company and there is nothing better than a bottle of Jack Daniels and George Jones when you are kicked to the curb. I am a grown man but I got to say that choked me up when I heard the news. Another one of his great tunes is If drinking don't kill me her memory will.

  • He loved her through all his life and til the day he died, I got it right away, no longer will her think about her, mourn about her, reminis about her, yearn and kiss her picture, it is the absolute fulfillment and truth of loving her til the day he dies, in a way her could mean music as well.. makes you think
