    An Alabama woman has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after police say she let her daughter ride in a cardboard box on top of their van. Albertville Police spokesman Sgt. Jamie Smith said the 37-year-old woman was arrested Sunday after police received a call about a minivan on a state highway with a child riding on top.

    Smith said the woman told police the box was too big to go inside the van, and that her daughter was inside the box to hold it down.

    Smith said the mother told officers it was safe because she had the box secured to the van with a clothes hanger.

    The 13-year-old daughter wasn't harmed and was turned over to a relative. A jail worker said the mother was out on bond Monday.

    Plain and simple...... STUPID!!!!

                  What could an adult, a parent, possibly be thinking to allow a child to be put in harms way like that. 
    It could of turned out much much worse, and I am glad the little girl was okay.
    Parents are supposed to protect their child at all cost. To be so negligent in that is certainly a crime in itself.  >:(

    Tonster,

    That makes zero sense. What was in the box that a 13 year old child was able to climb inside? If she could fit in the box, surely a smaller box could be used for whatever this nut job was hauling.

    If the box was empty, she could of broke the box down. I think her sentence for that crime........have her ride in the box and go 90 miles and hour on the highway.

    What a dozy wench that is.

    Its just unbelievable that someone can be so dim as to allow that.  She doesn't deserve the title of "mother" in any shape or form.

    I won't say that because she was a "Southern Belle" but she certianly was a DING DONG on a major scale.

    Like you said lips, break the box down!!

    I'm stunned at this and thank God the police were called and THANK YOU to the citizen who called them. Bless you for caring for someone who was in the clutches of that insane human!

    I hope the courts are firm.  Not necessarily separating the mom and child...UNLESS there is previous neglect.  But, yes, firm.
