Here in the UK, there are some terrible drivers, men will say it's the women who are the worst and women will say it's the men who are the worst. In fact, it is women who (at the moment) are able to get cheaper insurance because they have fewer accidents. Some bright spark in the EU has taken a case to court saying that they are being penalised for being a man and their insurance is more expensive and therefore, it is sexual discrimination.
The case was won and the law has now been changed and from December 2012, insurance companies cannot charge less for women. So in order to cover the shortfall, women are going to have to pay more for their insurance. >:(
But! Get a white van behind you and you are guaranteed to be tail gated, made to move to the inside lane because of the "danger" and get a couple of fingers in the air as the white van man drives past.
Do you have "white van man" where you are? Do men and women pay the same for insurance?

Men and women can have varied rates. It's not only based on sex and age in the US but also by the car you drive. I guess a 21 year old guy in a camaro would seem more risky than a 21 year old chick in a mini van or camaro for that matter.
You gotta love the guy in the white van. Been flipped off a million times!

In addition, you also pay based upon your credit rating also. PLus if you have previously had some major incidents in your past (They go back about 7 years)
And I never flipped the bird to anyone. Because nobody could see high enough into my BLUE van

Hi Blue,
Men def pay more for insurance then women in the US. The "white van man" has nothing on the taxi drivers in the city of Chicago. Tourists who visit and get in a cab smiling come out with a look of horror when they get out.
That is no exaggeration. I can't tell you how many times cars are cut off or how they will stop in the middle of the street and almost rear end cars. And talk about ride your bumper. Its so bad that most cars will have to change lanes because God forbid you need to stop. It is almost an art form on how they have the talent to pull in front of another car or ride your bumper without slamming into you. They narrowly miss you like a piece of paper between your car and theirs.
It's like a collision course thats for sure. So many times i have wondered how people drive in the city that are unfamiliar. Slowing down is not an option to find and address. And parking....thats a whole other story! Besides huge parking fees, trying to sandwich yourself tween two cars to parallel park is nuts. Trying to get out of a parking spot where you are wedged in could take up to ten minutes just to maneuver your car back and fourth.
I get a kick when i go on road trips and see signs that say "caution heavy traffic". And i see a fraction of the cars on the road then i see at home. Sigh....no wonder sometimes i long for the simple life.

Lips,
When I was driving truck, I quickly learned that in Chicago you must move halfway into the lane you want to be in BEFORE turning on your signal... no way do you want to give a Chicago driver warning that you want to move into their lane... it's not only the taxi drivers!
The taxi driver's left over from Chicago must be over in Gary, Indiana though... I spent one cold and snowy morning in a minivan taxi that picked up about 6 other people while skidding around corners and racing to the next stop... till the rock hit the fuel line... then we careened to the taxi driver's house with the smell of gas filling the vehicle from the leaking fuel line... (what a ride) once there he got his wife to drive us in another taxi... all in a day's work! -

Oh soooooo true about the turn signal katt!!! You would never ever get in the other lane. Omgggggg i have never turned on a directional until i'm just about in!!
I love the roads too that merge down to one lane due to construction and cars flyyyyyy i past ya to get to the front. Then all it does is cause a traffic jam. That is one of my biggest pet peeves.
Not sure if you have been on I-94 heading to the Eisenhower Expressway. That merges down to one lane. Cars are flying to get to the front of the pile and it causes a huge traffic jam every time i get on the ramp there. And sometimes if i'm not in the mood for them cutting in on me, i will inch up on top of the car in front of me an REFUSE to let them in!

Same here Froggy - type of car is relevant but if a man and woman are driving the same car, even though the man is more of a risk, the woman with the same car will have to pay the same amount as the man even though she is a lesser risk.

Having driven a big rig in 48 states, I can tell you for sure that the "white van man" is
everywhere... But, I always figured those folks with one finger up were telling me I was #1 in
their book.... 8'|
LMAO kattboots.
OMG Lips - it sounds awful. It sounds worse than London and I've never, nor will I ever drive in London.
How do you cope? I think I'd be a jibbering wreck if I drove in your city.

You can block a lot of flyin' jackasses with 75 feet of truck and trailer... and they ALL want to be in front of a big truck...
I did put my signal on once... ended up in Kenosha, WI before I could get over!
