  • Hi Guys and Dolls,

I can't believe how impatient and how easily angered people can be sometimes. Especially when you are out in the public.

I ran to the gas station because i was out of cigarettes. There are parking spots directly in front of the door. Now when i pulled up there was not a soul parked in the 5-6 spaces available. I sorta parked cock-eyed i will admit. But i knew i would be out in a flash anyway.

When i came back to my car there was a woman who pulled up next to me. She gave me the filthiest, dirtiest look that she could muster up. I get in the car thinking to myself, no way i had to read her wrong. As i start my car i glance over to her and she is shaking her head and glaring at me.

Ok now that i know it's not my imagination and she is really ticked off, i am wondering what on God's green earth did i do. I am going over it in my head when i glance over again and her head is moving back and fourth up and down the length of my car.

Oh she made her point crystal clear that she did not like the way i pulled in that parking spot. But the strange thing is, i did not take up two spots and she parked right in front of door as well. Why would she waste the time and energy to get so angered?

Have you ran across rude people when you have been out and about. And why do you think such trivial things tick people off so much?

  • Well..."ticked off" people are usually preoccupied with some anxiety producing situation in their life.  The "ticked off" is simply their projected anxiousness.

So, this woman may be having trouble with her family, finances, job, etc.  My educated guess she is anxious about something to do with responsiblity.  (Kid is not responsible, job, government, etc.)  So, when you did the grandma-cock-eyed parking job (Ha!)  it pulled up those feelings....hence the dirty look you got.

To an NON-anxious person your parking job was 1.  not noticed, or 2. would invoke a bit of a "oh well."

To an anxious person your parking job was viewed as "does that person think they are the only person on the lot?!  Come on lady, park it right!

I LOVE the topics you raise!

    LMAO
  • I guess you'd better be thankful she didn't haul out a gun and start shooting!!  shocked shocked

I like Doc thinking that if you're anxious, you'll pick on little things. Personally, I chuckle when I see a cock-eyed parking job (And I have even done it myself!) so I just have smiled and parked elsewhere (You think I want damage from you crazies??) in the lot.

  • I think people are angry at the U.S.Government.  The President, the Congress to some have failed them miserably and in the right atmosphere that anger manifests itself in a fit of rage.

  • Joseph, and all:
Joseph, you hit a great point. Most people who keep track of society's "pulse" will tell you overall anger/frustation/anxiety is abnormally high.  And yes, government is a big part of that.  What is scary is there seems to be no hint at a decline in this over all anger.....it seems to be increasing.  What next?  Scary to even speculate.

A good example of this:  The terrorist group Al Quada has grown due to the very high anxiety in the Arab world.  In essence, years of ultra high anxiety in the middle east has produced a "soil" to grow Al Quada.  Now, this is an extreme example, but it demonstrates how growing anxiety in a population can lead to some rather serious situations.

  • Great analogy doc. But i think even in a peaceful world, anger will always exist. Being quick to anger only attributes to many factors.

I always thought of people on the street that were snippy had some pent up frustration they couldn't express at home and let loose with strangers because there is no lingering consequences.

I have known people who are as easy going as can be, but get them on the street with the public and that's where you see a whole different side of them. Then and only then are the quick to anger.
