  • Would it be wise for a spouse to take that "knew his/her way around the streets?"  This person may have served in jail, but you feel in your heart he/she is a good person.
-OR- You may be the "street-savy" one and prefer a nice guy/girl.

(Example: Marrying a "Kojak" type, man or woman)

  • Depends on what the person is doing with their life at the time. Having a past is one thing. Nobody is perfect. Dragging you into the gutter, a life of crime, drug addicts lolling around your home is quite another thing all together.

  • The past doesn't matter, the future does wink

  • Hi Pacer,

Absolutely love this question and have discussed this more then once in convos. Street smarts doesn't necessarily mean "Jail Bird" but i think that if i had a choice tween book smart and street smarts i may be more inclined to go with the street smart guy.

Not that i don't love a book smart man, in fact it is stimulating to me. But a street wise person sometimes has come from the school of hard knocks and in some way shows an inner compassion and soul.

I compare it to someone who was born with the "silver spoon in their mouth". They have never experienced the other side of life. And as a result don't have the understanding or compassion with those who have struggled.

The ideal man would be book smart and street wise!

  • I'd never knock a street wise, infact i find them very sexy, the smooth criminal, much more intelligent then even those that are well educated, theres much to benefit.. BUT there are those that are stupidly street smart, those are the ones who took the crash course in a fast lane.. skipping the book of real life. Streetwise actually keeps you out of trouble but aware of what goes on and how to deal with it..

The past does not matter as long as he/she has learned from it otherwise a criminal just continues to be a criminal and stays that way.. thats no where near street wise lol

  • Pacer would you prefer to marry someone street smart?
  • Like Katt, it all depends on what he or she is doing with his life now...
Whatever he might have done in the past is put to rest then it won't really matter but if he still lingers in the past, then my answer would be definitely no way,Jose!
I have never been attracted by street smart men but more into a book smart man but then again I might not have met a sexy, smooth one...heh. grin

  • Pacer would you prefer to marry someone street smart?

Yes, but only if she were finished with her past (or vise versa).  Maybe her family was involved in criminal activities for example, but only if her hands were clean (no involvement herself).
  • "Street Smart" does not necessarily mean "criminal". Or at least i didn't think so. i always took it to be wise and aware of your surroundings. To also have a good perception of people.........

  • Sounds like you have some "street savvy" Lips.

I'm somewhat torn on this subject because while being "street smart" is glorified on television, the conventional thinking is if you want to be a prominent person you have no dealings with "street people", with a fine line between "street people and "street smarts".

With your definition Lips, one would think it would be wise to have such awareness.

  • I guess there is basically two ways to describe "Street Smart". One being the "glorified" as you mentioned as in the gangsta hood which is often thought of as "Al Capone" cool.

Or a person who is not gullible and taken in by some smooth operator that will sail you down the river if given the chance.

I must admit i have always been taken by the Hollywood Al Capone, Godfather type figures. I know that in reality they were cruel killers. But there is something to be said about a man who can snap his fingers and get the best table in the house or by slipping a one hundred bill get into a joint with no waiting!

Anyone woman who says they are not somewhat smitten with that kind of power and not to mention being spoiled with a lavish lifestyle i am not exactly buying.

Sure the road is paved to hell and it is more a dream then the harsh reality of what these mobsters were or are. But what women doesn't dream? We dream as little girls being whisked away by the knight in shining armor.  And what is that knight? He is power and a protector.

We can say all we want as women that we are independent and equal won't be pushed around by a man. But i feel instinctively we appreciate a man with a Warrior type persona.

  • "Criminal" in my comment is meaning, smooth and easy going, it is slang in street talk..you get away with certain things because you are smart enough in the streets to get around it, smart enough to stay outta trouble.. you know the lingo, the people, how to speak and what to say, who's who in that world.. getting your way, giving respect and being respected.. the second part of my comment does relay to criminal as in illegal activities, such as drug dealing, weaponry, pimpin' n stuff.. lol or par say other deep street activities
