Your hard earned money

I applaused myseft for not gambling today because I was not feeling it.  The only time I did not gamble was when I was broke or busy, but I did not have school nor work from other job today,  :D . I just watched the movies all day, then I got bored and decided to go to a supermarket.  I got myseft a full basket of stuffs, most of them are food that I won't finish in weeks or even a month,  :P , it's suprised me that the cost for everything is less than $40.  Then, I thought about the time when I was new to online casinos, I put $50 to one of the rival casinos with 100% bonus and had lesss than 5 minute of playing time  :o or same thing with microgaming casinos or even worst, when I tried to chase my loses by depositing another $50 to have another 5 minute or less of playing time,  :o , I said to myseft I could use those money for a month or two in food, lol.  For people who are new to online gambling, spend your HARD EARNED MONEY wisely by doing some research please, find good casinos to play with and avoid the rogues (even on free chips), find casinos with good bonus to give you longer playing time, find hot casinos to play with (check out winner screen shots) and avoid casinos that are too tight and if you have any question, we are here to help, dont hesitate to post them up, some of us will reply.

The money I sank into these places when I first started, buying gambling books and software...didn't know there were forums online where a person could find basically the same (if not better) information for free.

If anyone considers gambling for income, one should study intesely a particular game (say poker, for instance) for six months (without wagering real money.) Then finally decide if it is a game you want to wager on.  

I can see people, very smart people, making a living at land based casinos.....but, I don't see it happening at online casinos.

I remember a program which talked about one lady who had been to Vegas many, many times and she has never had to pay for room or food (All comped) because she plays the VP machines and plays enough to get everything comped. Plus, she's rarely left a loser...

Some might think "Oh that's the life" but I listened to one guy who did it and he said "Imagine working 10 hrs daily, 5 days a week. That's what it's like" in regards to making a living playing VP machines and the like...

You gave great advice and i commend your honesty and helpfulness to new gamblers. Your right when you say $40 could be used to by groceries instead of blowing in 5 min only to come up empty handed.

The crazy thing is i can go to a casino.....blow a small fortune yet squabble over the price per pound on certain produce!! And this is a matter of a few cents.

Seriously though, you make a great point TAAA. Funny how I can dump 20 after 20 in a machine and have the nerve to complain about the cost of anything.

To add to this... I haven't been playing online much, but I did go to the land casino this week.  Let's say I spent around $1000, over my budget for sure.  Because I haven't been playing at home, it hurt but not like it could have.  So today I go to the store, needing some toner and paper plus a few groceries.  My 5 year old wants the new light up shoes he sees that are $49.99 with $10 off.  I immediately say NO, but when he goes 'but mom I've been wearing these a long time now', I stop and think exactly what Taa described.  I can blow $1000 at a casino but I was unwilling to even consider the expensive shoes- for a 5 year old they are I think.  So my son got his new shoes, and I even added in a few inexpensive luxury items I normally don't buy for my home office. A new organizer, etc.  Grand total was $118 including tax.  Really puts stuff into perspective for us crazies.

same here. I have not bought clothes and shoes in years. Every Christmas my family would get it for me as presents. Last week I went on a so call date. A Coworker gave me a gift card worth $60 at Ruth Chris Steak House and the $60 is enough for 1 person. So  i told her we can only spent $20 more lol. So at the end of the night i spent out of pocket $70. As i was taking her home I told her I have to go home now and make up the playing poker online. I didn't ask her if she wanted to do anything all i could think about was poker. For all I know I might have gotten some. lol  Well it started off very good in a few hours i made $150. So i was thinking it was a good night. 1 hr later i lost the $150  and deposited $100 more. Before i went to sleep that night i was sick. Well the good thing about that night was i got to try several dishes i have not try before and i got to know  my friend alittle better.

I guess as a gambler we do have our moments to try to recoup what we lost in other ways. Mainly to deprive ourselves.

I was at a land casino not too long ago when i saw a woman in line ahead of me as we were waiting for our players card. Her hair was in tangles and quite obviously not washed in a long time. Her clothes were well worn, with gym shoes that were falling apart on her feet.

As i looked at her i felt a sense of sadness come over me. I could tell she was a hardcore gambler. Nothing else mattered to her. Not her hygiene, appearance or even money to splurge on herself. She probably took every dime she ever had day to day and spent it all on a little game of chance. She had an expression of a gambler who no longer enjoyed it but rather tried to chase the losses back.

As people around her had the urge to step back from her i felt the urge to want to hug her. She had a story to tell. You could see it in every line in her face. But it was not a story she was quite ready to tell yet.

She grew very impatient in line as the wait seemed to take forever. She was anxious to gamble like an alcoholic waiting for the next drink. You can always spot the gambler who goes strictly for recreation and the gambler who is in so deep that they lost the part of them when it was all in good fun.

As usual, you Lips hit the point! Your post is a lesson we should all learn: that gambling is tricky and not to be taken too seriously. It's just another way of having fun; but if you turn it into something more serious, it may become a rather costly way to have fun. And you may lose more than just your money...
