  • Hiya Guys and Dolls,

I have been getting emails from what appears to be from YouTube. The subject line says "Your YouTube video has been uploaded". Knowing i have not loaded one i open up the email like "huh". The email looks completely legit with YouTube logo and addy.

When i click on the link where it says "View your video now" it takes me to a site about Viagra and other sexual stimulating drugs. There is even a link in the email to report it as spam but when i click on it the link is broken.

Is anyone else getting these? If you do beware because it's a scam and now i think since i clicked it they know i am a live active email and more garbage will be sent to me.

    Lips
  • Thank you Lips, i've gotten them but i never open them i figured on them being some sort of scam or ad, now i know not to. Scammers and Advers just squeeze their way into everything nowadays,we have to leary and beware of everything we open.

  • And what is amazing is how clever they got at the authenticity of the emails. Use to be you could check the email address or check for the logo to know they are legit but not anymore. So be careful of emails from sources that you don't normally get.

  • You're brave to open those emails lips. I've received emails from UPS saying they've sent my delivery. I'm like c'mon. Delete! I don't even read those shady emails cause lord knows what's in them. All I need is to get a nasty virus. They are sly and since I have a YouTube account, I might think twice about opening that. Thanks! surprise

  • Just an fyi....if you just hover your mouse over a link...look to the bottom of your screen and it'll show you where that link will really take you!!!!!!  also, if you want to check who it really is from prior to opening the email-right click on the sender and select "view full header" then look through there and you can usually figure if it is legit or not(that's what i do with a bunch of "casino" emails!!)

  • Thanks for the info everyone!!

The only one I've been getting is from UPS too..well let me think..did I order anything...hmmmm NO!!

Just leave our puters alone!! laugh_out_loud smiley

lmaooo i know, it kills me
  • Dont let your curiosity get better of you lips cheesy

Several years back when i still played World of warcraft, i recieved lot of spam on my mail, like official mail from Blizzard (the manufacturer of the game) that something is not right with my account and there was a link to folow to resolve the matter. Of course it leads you to scam site that looks almost like official and when you enter your login, you can tell good buy to your account, it gets stolen. Have couple of friends that lost their accounts in this way.

Those mails tend to look very similar, but there are differences if you pay a very good attention, what kristih posted is what you should always check in every strange situation like this.

  • Yep, got it, deleted it. I do watch youtube vids, but don't upload, so I knew it was a fake or scam of some type.

  • That is terrible Lips! I used to open all kinds of emails... but I learned my lesson... luckily! cheesy

  • I did not have you tube email scam, but I had paypal email scam similar to what you described.  The email looked very ligit just like the real paypal email.  I reported it to paypal and they adviced me not to click on the link or attachment provided by the scam email for my own protection,

  • Whenever they look legit enough to get me to open them at all, I try to forward them to the actual business to let them know. Most have a special email address, like abuse@businessname com or something similar... I just sent one to my bank less than an hour ago. It does help them combat these scammers.

    katt

  • I've received an identical email yesterday and I deleted it right away because it looked suspicious since I never uploaded a video on that account. Such scams will keep coming, you just have to be careful.

  • wonder how these scammers would feel to get scamed themselves then maybe it would be a lesson learned

I doubt that they can learn such a lesson, they might only be interested in the method applied to scam them wink
