  • Laughlin Nevada is only an hour and half away from Las Vegas and a stones throw to Arizona that is directly across the other side of the Colorado River. There are 7 Casinos along the Colorado River which can be reached by water taxi or walkway starting at Pioneer Casino.

There are no commercial flights to get here the only way to fly is by charter. If you are visiting Vegas there are shuttles that will take you to Laughlin. It is well worth the trip and highly recommend it.

Harrah's Laughlin - This Casino is the last one on the strip. Rather isolated from the rest there is no walkway along the river and taking the water taxi is necessary or opt to walk in front of the casinos on the main street.

The buffet open for breakfast and dinner (not lunch) is one of the best on the strip. The Guy Fieri Mexican restaurant  El Burro Borracho has good authentic food. The Range Steakhouse has fantastic steaks!

The casino is comprised mostly of penny slots. The Video Poker section is limited on the variety of games offered, but there are plenty of machines available to play. One complaint at the tables is you can NOT request a black chip if you are up and winning. Black chips are only given to the player when they are leaving the table.

Service - As far as quality, prompt and friendly service Harrah's wins hands down. The cocktail servers are plentiful and on average you will be asked every 30 min or so if you want a drink. What is cool is at night when it is more busy there is one person that takes your drink order on an iPad and within 5 minutes the cocktail server comes over with your drink.

Harrah's is the only casino on the strip that has a beach along the Colorado River. There is an outdoor pool and hot tub. An outside bar (open seasonally only) and sandwich shop are located right off the pool. The rooms were very small at least in tower one but the beds and pillows were very very comfortable. Every night a little box of homemade cookies from Harrah's bakery was left on the night stand.

Here is a view from our room:

  • My favorite casino, hands down. They also have an adult only tower.

  • The Pioneer Casino is next in line on the strip. This old fashion western saloon themed Casino still dispenses coins instead of vouchers! It is the smallest casino and if you are looking for budget table games this is the place. There is really nothing fancy about this casino, it is pure nostalgic.

Unfortunately if you go off season Roulette is only available on weekends: Friday - Sunday. There are 500 Slots and Video Poker machines total on the Casino floor. The hotel offers 400 rooms at affordable prices.

Blueberry Flats is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner offering traditional American dishes.

There is a general store featuring old fashion candy and souvenirs.

  • My favorite casino, hands down. They also have an adult only tower.

Yesssssss that is Tower 1 and where we stayed. I like how it was located right in the heart of the Casino, restaurants, gift shop etc.
  • The Colorado Belle: This Casino is just plain cute! It is designed like a paddle boat and has a cozy inviting atmosphere.

The casino floor features a lot of the new slot releases. This is one spot i want to go back to for the nice variety of games and just the overall atmosphere.

Golden Nugget: The outside of this Casino looks very fancy with bright neon lights everywhere. But once inside it did not quite fit the glamour of the outside. Entering the main doors was jungle like fauna that looked like it was better suited for a more earthy style casino. I was disappointed with the lack of Video Poker machines.

We ate at Bubba Gump, a seafood restaurant themed after the movie Forest Gump. The seafood was HORRIBLE! If you are a seafood lover you will be majorly disappointed! Opt for the Saltgrass Steakhouse instead!

Edgewater Casino: This casino is a fooler, because from the outside it looks like nothing fancy but as far as the casino floor it offers one of the most up-to-the-minute Slots. I found Slot games here that i never knew existed. And the best part of all is they are mostly penny machines.
  • Tropicana Express Casino: Located across the street this Casino is not along the Colorado River. Without a doubt it is the most impressive on the outside lit up at night in all green:

Unfortunately the casino floor was a major disappointment. The Slots were older and had very few new releases and the Video Poker games were ancient with display screens that were fading in color. We didn't stay long enough to check anything else out!

Aquarius Casino: A class act casino inside and out!

We had the buffet here and it was tops and definitely recommend it. Fantastic gaming floor with a massive variety of games. We had to go back here twice!
  • Don Laughlin's Riverside Casino: The inspiration of Casinos along the Colorado River was the brainstorm idea of Don Laughlin. His Riverside Casino was the first and it is so big it's easy to get lost. There are lot of shops including clothing, souvenirs, smoke shop plus a bowling alley, movie theater and a car museum featuring his fleet of classic cars.

Don Laughlin who is now in his 90's can still be seen walking around the Casino. He has a penthouse suite on the top floor and along side of the Casino is a overhead door where he pulls in his white Rolls Royce!

I am a sucker for history and nostalgia so i really liked it but have to admit it was a bit run down in certain areas. Considering eating at the buffet? DON'T! Sadly i don't think the menu or the food stations have been updated since the 70's. It was HORRIBLE, by the far the worst i have ever had!

Overall it is a must see casino with plenty to do besides gambling which has a decent amount of gaming!
  • On my last trip here in June i stayed in Tower 2. I highly recommend this one over Tower 1 where i stayed last time. Both are nicely located to the Casino floor however, Tower 2 is newer. All rooms are suites and they are much bigger.

If anyone should book a stay there request Tower 2 you won't be disappointed!

  • Take a look at this old time Slot Machine at the Pioneer Gambling Hall in Laughlin:

Jackpots back in those days were $20 and required a hand pay!!

  • As beautiful and tempting as the Colorado River is don't attempt to jump off any of the Cliffs into the water......

A man recently attempted it in Nevada and fell to his death. It was ruled as an accident.

  • ...........and here is some better news to leave ya'll with

    Making history in Laughlin!

Joe W. of Little River, SC is the biggest pari-mutuel payout in all of William Hill History in the US. His win was a staggering $143,915 after betting on a 4 year old filly Desireoftheheart. The horse ran in the 9th race at Santa Anita.

  • One thing that i never believed could possibly be true is extreme dry heat temps can be much more tolerable. I mean if it is 110 degrees (43.3 celcius) that is intolerable no matter what right? Having just got back from a recent trip to Laughlin proved me wrong.

It was very dry, hot in the 100's kinda of days sitting on the terrace having lunch at the hottest part of the day and not once did i even sweat a single bead! Granted i was in the shade but at those temps does it really matter?

If i was to sit outside here at home with even 85 degrees temp it would miserable with the humidity. Sigh.......i wanna to move to Laughlin or anywhere that has dry heat!

  • I  just returned from Harrah's Laughlin a couple weeks ago. It was the first time i was there in October and wondered if the weather would still be nice enough to hang out by the pool. Ahh, it was a balmy 90 degrees plus every day!.We even managed to get in the last two days the pool bar was open for cocktails which, to be honest, are not that great, but hey ya need something to wet your whistle right! Poolside bar reopens next March and I'll be one of the first waiting in line.

If you get the chance to go, do it!  Make sure to hit Guy Fieri's El Burro Borracho Mexican restaurant and get the Trashcan nachos with carnitas:

The server removes the bottomless can and all the delish goodness falls onto the platter. Add a margarita and you've hit a jackpot of another kind!

  • The Colorado Belle was super cool to see when I visited. My ex was from Bullhead, AZ which is right across the river there. Didn't get to play much while we were there as we were going to Vegas the next day but still, super cool place for sure!
