  • So this past week I had the urge to want to go land based casino.  So I decided on going north instead of going towards the Illinois area like I normally do.  I ended up in Southern Minneapolis in a town called Prior Lake.  There is what I like to call a hidden gem of a casino.  Mystic Lake, it’s owned by an Indian tribe, and also has a sister casino called Little Six.

The reason why I call this a nice little hidden gem, is the fact that since the casino focuses more on slots.  They have a very nice variety of slots to play on.  Some of them are very new slots, some are slightly older, and some haven’t been in existence for quite a while at some casinos.

Some of my older favorite machines that I can’t seem to find anywhere else that they had was Aztec Temple, Pyramid of the Kings, and Jackpot Party Progressive, and the original Jackpot Party.  Some for sure harder than heck to find games at other casinos these days.

So I went down Wednesday, started out my day by popping in $100 into the Jackpot Party Progressive machine.  Now what made this different from the ones that I had played in the past was instead of being set at 1 cent, with 25 lines, max bet of $2.50.  It was set at 2 cents with 20 lines, with a max bet of $2.00.  So of course me wanting to get the attention of the jackpot controller, I was betting max bet.

I ended up playing a Jungle Wild variant, but what made this machine unique compared to other Jungle Wild machines.  Was the fact that you choose what bonus enhancers you got, but picking boxes and having it real things.  Like coin bonus, wild reels, extra spins, or a multiplier.

I ended up going thru $80 fairly quickly before I got the machine to do anything. Which like I was going for I got the attention of the jackpot controller and got a Jackpot Party Progressive bonus.  Now the nice thing about the Jackpot Party progressive was that if you were betting max bet, you were always at least guaranteed the lower jackpot regardless. Which for this set of machines started out at $8.00 and went up fairly slowly.  So in the end this machine paid me the level 1 progressive, with some bonus money for a grand total of $30.00.  To say the least between the machine already not doing well, and the lousy win.  I was already ready to give up on this machine.

Then I moved onto another old favorite which was Aztec Temple.  This machine was my first experience with the 243 ways to win type of feature.  I remembered that at times I could get the machine to pop for a fairly nice pay day.  Unfortunately this was just not my afternoon.  The machine was dead cold and didn’t pay out a single dime.  So at this point I ended up going to bed.

So the next morning we got up and ate the Minnehaha Café.  The say the least the food was good, the hash browns we both agreed had a fruity taste to them.  Something we both could have done without.  Otherwise my friends Omelet and my Steak and Eggs were both good.

Then we headed off to the Mall of America to get out of the casino for a while.  Nice mall, you can tell they’ve tried to have a nice up keep on it.  Yet you can just tell the money isn’t flowing in like it once was.  Honestly I realize it was a Thursday in the early morning.  Yet I just figured a mega mall like that would always have a decent crowd.  Really it was sort of dead really.  After doing some shopping, and enjoying a meal at the Pita Pit.  We headed back to the casino for me to try to see if for once I could do some damage to the casino versus the other way around again.

I started my day out playing Mystical Unicorn by putting in $100.  This slot has always been mild to me.  Not a very big loss machine, but never a machine I would say I won anything huge on.  I was tempted to play this machine because the mega progressive was within $20.00 of popping.  Well the machine itself was popping just fine without the progressive win.  Within the first few spins I ended up hitting 4 of a kind Unicorns across for a heck of a nice pay day of $300.00 on a $1.20 bet.  So I was excited, because the progressive had gone up another $1.00.  So I pressed on for a bit got a few nice bonuses average about $80.00 a piece.  I ended up deciding to give up on the progressive, granted it was at $484.00 when I left it, but decided since I had won $600.00 on this machine.  I had won way more than the progressive.  So I decided to let someone else have their try on getting it to pop.

Then I ended up trying the original Bierhouse machine.  Now I realize I have seen some really nice hits on this machine yet honestly I just can’t get the machine to do a single thing for me.  No bonus, no any decent line pays, no nothing.  I also played this machine at $1.20 a play.  I ended up going thru $75.00 before giving up on this machine.

My next machine I wanted to play was Pyramid of the Kings.  I always liked the machine because of the cascading symbols, and the increasing multiplier for each cascade. I played this machine for a bit, yet I did remember why I always hit the stop button for the counting.  The counter was pretty slow for a WMS machine.  I ended up hitting a few nice line hits, and a bonus that brought me back to where I was playing the unicorn machine.  So I decided to try something else for a bit.

This time I decided to play the upgraded Bierhouse, Bierhouse 200.  Now this machine was nice to me.  I got 20 free spins, and ended up a nice $300 bonus round.  At this point I had been playing for about 3 hours and decided it was time for bed.  I walked out of the casino up $800 for the day.  A much better improvement over the previous day.

On my last morning I got up and had breakfast again at Minnehaha.  This time opting for a burger, and found it to be much better.  I would have tried the buffet, steak house, or noodle shop.  Yet because I sleep mostly afternoon thru the evening.  My opportunities for trying these places were shot because of the early afternoon into the evening hours.  Next time I’ll have to stay up until 11 or wake up before 9 and try one of these places.  That or not eat the Mall the next time.

Anywho, I wanted to try another machine I had never seen before which was Where’s the Diamonds, pretty much a knock off of Where’s the Gold.  I ended up playing this machine for a solid 2 hours and ended up $500 ahead.  At this point it was time to go home. So for my whole trip, with everything I had spent at the mall, the hotel room, and food.  I actually ended out with $700 in extra cash for the whole trip.  Not a bad trip this time.

So now you can tell why I call this the hidden gem.  I do remember the last time I had played here back in 2011.  I had a similar result, which tells you I should be coming here more often than going to Jumers, but oh well.

Just as a side note, they do serve liquor here, yet at $6.00 for a pint of beer and $10.00 for a shot.  I decided to pass on the booze this time.  I just can’t justify even with my winnings paying that much for beer or liquor on the casino floor.  Thanks for reading guys.

  • That's a real hidden gem, cheetahwind. Congrats.  Too bad about the first day, but that doesn't matter much; $700 more in your pocket  is a nice way to end your trip.

  •               That's awesome Cheetahwind !  The fact that you did better than break even alone is most excellent.  A  $700 payday is nothing to sneeze at.  Sounds like a great place....'cept for the beer prices.  laugh_out_loud

  • Fantastic story cheetah and loved reading it. One point i agree on is that Bier haus Slot. I have seen soooooo many people win on that Slot and every single time i play it i lose as fast as i throw the money in the slot.

    Great great win and story!

  • Decided to take a trip here again... so far here's my story of the day

First day in, put in $40 into a Geisha Deluxe machine.  Hit the bonus round.  Got 3 minor symbols, ended up netting myself a nice $182.00.

Then ended up putting that money into a Choy Sun Doa with jackpots machine.  Ended up hitting another $140.00 pay day.

The blackjack tables on this trip are eating me alive though.  They have 2 deck, 4 deck, and 6 deck tables.  Not a single one of them are paying out what so ever.

Plus I finally noticed the table limits are sort of small.  Even for the $25/hand table, the max bet is $199.00.

I ended up trying some of the food at the promenade, the fusion noodle bar is actually pretty good.  Even a simple hamburger was pretty good as well, at there grill.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to have some of there buffet.  The smells coming out of it small amazing.

I've have a more details experience hopefully later, but figured I would share some of the positive and negative things about the trip so far.

  • Well my 2nd day didn't go so well.  I got $100 worth of Mystic Cash from them.  I was going for a $300 profit today.

I got to $200 twice with there money to only end up busting.

So I ended up playing $100 of my own cash.  To not even get close that original $200 I had won from there money.

On a plus note I hit a rather nice little minor jackpot along the way today.

Here's a screen shot I stole, while I think no one was looking.

On either note, today was my down day,  hopefully after I wake up, before I go back home tomorrow.  I can get some that $100 back, plus there was a Geisha machine that's jackpot was built up over $3,000.00.  I might hit on that tomorrow for a bit to see if I can get that sucker to pop.

Otherwise I'm still not a fan of some of the folks around here.  A lot of people who smack the machine, smack the button repeatedly like there in a slot tournament, and just a lot of general break of the machines.  Plus I'm so not a fan of people lighting up next to me since I'm not a smoker.

Oh well, this place is still fun and nice.

  • I'm not sure if it was mystic lake that I went to, but when my brother lives in Pine River, down bear Brainerd, I went to one of their Indian casinos. It reminded me of our old Indian casinos here in California (before they sprouted up like Vegas casinos)... White tent looking places. Lol I have a $5 chip somewhere still. Pretty neat that they still have the old slots. I miss those a lot!

  • Mystic Lake is the casino I go to if when I go to a land based casino.  About 40 min from my home...closet casino we have.

  • How did your last day go there Cheetah? Any luck?

  • Yep my last day, I played Reel Money progressive machine.

Hit the lower 2 progressives and a few line hits.  I made my casino investment back, and a little bit more.  Which is about all you can ask for some days. lol

Well, that's not too bad then, cheetahwind. With my luck nowadays, I'd be satisfied with that.
  • little six is my favorite in mn. hit 4 jackpots in 1 month 2 of them on same machine last year. video poker

  • Have not been back in a little while. Loved little six but they got really tight ever since covid and all.

  • I enjoyed reading this! thank you!!  I stay not too far from here. Last time I went was not as bountiful as my first time coming. But this has me thinking a visit might be worthwhile!!

  • I haven't been to Mystic for a hot minute really.  I've been going over to the Horseshoe in my local state a lot more often.  It was a nice casino, just wish at the time they had more than live blackjack was all.
