Early estimates based on Daiwa Capital Markets stated $256 million had been stolen in the Wynn Casino Macau heist.  A more accurate figure was reported by Dore's, (where the suspected junket employee worked) in a recent statement that the losses were HK$100 million, or $13 million. • Arcade Style Gambling a New Trend

A shift in Slot play is about to make a big change with technology that is destined to attract younger demographics.

Recently at the Global Gaming Expo software companies showed off technology that introduced several products that focused on skill and player interaction.

The arcade style machines will have attached game controllers influenced by hot hits like Pac-Man. The skilled based games has drawn particularly interest from the Downtown Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

“We want to be competitive — we want to attract the current core base of customers that other casinos have as well,” said Jim Simms, the Grand’s new chief executive, in a recent interview.
But there’s also been a trend where slot play has kind of been declining lately. … We’re looking at building a model here that is going be a little more technology-savvy, maybe more cutting-edge than some of our competition.”

Seth Schorr, Grand Casino chairman is also on the board of GameCo, a company that is trying to get video games for gambling off the ground.

“As a young casino operator, as a Nevadan, I feel it’s my duty to keep Nevada relevant by making gaming more relevant to a younger demographic,” said Schorr.

It will be interesting to see how these type of games based on skill will pay the player. Reaching a new level and generation of gamblers is the goal but that hardly excludes the mature crowd that were playing Pac Man before the younger crowd were even born.

The casino outside of Fort Worth, closed after Texas state law trumped national Indian law and  casino gambling is illegal in Texas.

In December 2014 the legalization of Casinos was passed with the stipulation that no more than three Casinos are permitted on the Island, but could amend allowing five. Applications should be available in the first quarter of 2016.

“There would be free media if that happens. That would be news. That would help put this place on the map,” said Schuetz in an interview. “Secondly, [the interested operators] have a name for a reason. They deliver. They win.”

There is also talks of opening the Casinos in time for the 35th America’s Cup in 2017.

  • Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino Fatal Shooting Christmas Eve

A fatal shooting took place at Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino in Chandler, AZ on Christmas Eve.

Police have identified  the suspect John Albert Campos Sr., 47, on Saturday.

Armed and dangerous, the officials are asking anyone with information on him or his whereabouts to call 911.

Campos reportedly shot a retired Bakersfield, Calif., police Officer Frank Pascua followed by carjacking a witness and left Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino around 9 p.m. Thursday.

Officer Pascua, 52, retired in 2003 after a 6½-year career with the Bakersfield police.

"Our victim was trying to do what he's been trained to do his entire life, which is stopping a crime and a dangerous person on the street," said Gila River Detective Robert Hawkes.

The shooting took place in the parking lot near the entrance of the busy casino, Hawkes said. Campos also stole a vehicle that belonged to a person who had stopped to help after the shooting.

Reports say Campos drove off in a green Kia Soul. He has still not been found, while the police and other agencies look for him.

Arizona Department of Corrections said he was convicted in 2005 for a number violent crimes, including armed robbery and kidnapping and was released from prison in 2014.

  • Steve Wynn Looking For New Casino

Moving outside of Atlantic City, Steve Wynn wants to build a new Casino in North Jersey. Michael Weaver, a spokesperson for Wynn authenticated recent rumors that Wynn had an interest in New Jersey legislators’ proposals to amend the state constitution allowing casinos outside Atlantic City.

In opposing contrast to his proposal, Senate President Stephen Sweeney wants two casinos in two counties, which means each casino would have to be at least partially owned by an already existing Atlantic City operator. The new casinos’ revenue would be shared with Atlantic City operators in an effort to offset expected loss of business.

Wynn no longer owns a Casino in Atlantic City after selling it in 1987.

  • A NFL Stadium in Las Vegas?

Right when you thought Las Vegas had it all, here comes an idea that is way outside of the ballpark. It could end up inside the ballpark if Casino billionaire mogul Sheldon Adelson gets his way.

Adelson is proposing a billion dollar NFL stadium in near the University of Nevada. The domed stadium could also be used by the students at the school. Last month the UNLV purchased 42 acres where the stadium could be built. The project would require the state to approve public funds in the tune of $780 million that Adelson’s Sand’s Corp is asking for.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported a company executive stated: “We are moving forward with the stadium concept with or without an NFL team.”

“We see a lot more opportunities — conference championships, bowl games, NFL exhibition football, boxing, soccer, neutral site games, and music festivals. There is an entire segment out there.”

The proposal may however hit a snag due to the strong anti-gambling stance the league holds.
  • It all sounds great! New Stadium, University benefits, NFL, endless event opportunities.... I would like to see all of those things come to fruition. BUT NOT AS LONG AS ADELSON IS INVOLVED! For that singular reason, I hope the NFL turn their noses up at that hypocrite! I just can not stand that man! He is the biggest douche bag in Vegas & that is quite a title to attain!  wink
  • Borgata Babes Must Comply

According to Borgata's recruiting brochure, there's much more than providing good service to being a cocktail server.

    Potential candidates read the following:

They’re beautiful.  They’re charming.  And they’re bringing drinks.  She moves toward you like a movie star, her smile melting the ice in your bourbon and water.  His ice blue eyes set the olive in your friend’s martini spinning.  You forget your own name.  She kindly remembers it for you.  You become the most important person in the room.  And relax in the knowledge that there are no calories in eye candy.  Part fashion model, part beverage server, part charming host and hostess.  All impossibly lovely…On a scale of 1 to 10, elevens all…The memory of their warm, inviting, upbeat personalities will remain with you long after the vision has faded from your dreams.

How is one to maintain such an image? It's all written in the rules with servers, known as Borgata Babes, subject to weigh in's and specific contracts not to gain or lose more than 7% in weight from the day they were hired.

A group of the babes filed suit against the casino saying the rules were discriminatory. The Appellate Court in New Jersey ruled that the casino was not violating any laws and the Supreme Court later declined to hear the case.

Apparently there are no US laws against discrimination based on weight, appearance or sex appeal. Accepting this job involves a level of performance and responsibility for your public appearance.
  • It really puts pressure on woman. I can see to a degree that appearance is important for this position but to be within a rigid weight classification is wrong.

I am just wondering do any male positions have such restrictions?

  • Although mainly dominated by female cocktail servers, the same rules apply to men. Everyone is subject to these rules if they want this particular position at Borgata.

  • Wow that is just wrong in my eyes.  smiley

  • Gunmen Storm Pasino Casino in Paris

People in the Paris area are still not comfortable after the terrorist attack in November that killed 130 people. Police chief Laurent Nunez said that Saturday's robbery was "absolutely not a terrorist act."

15 people suffered slight injuries due to the panic it caused inside.

The casino reopened Saturday under extra security.
  • Geez, people are just crazy. I think Paris has been thru enough....along with the rest of the world!!!

Whoa! This seems a little suspicious to me. What in the hell was she doing in a laundry chute? Her husband had no idea that she was in the chute? How did they know she was in there? The Housekeeping staff experienced blockage in the chute or did she fall through it? I need to set up a notification on this story because something is askew.

Thank you, Lips for sharing this with us. I wish her loved ones peace of mind & hope everyone involved is thoroughly investigated. Tragic.
  •               First of all,  this is a horrible tragedy any way you look at it.  I hate to say this,  but I wonder if alcohol was involved.  That would be my first guess.  I  guarantee you they're going to do a tox.  screen.
Good questions Jenna,  so was she alone?  any witnesses? After reading it again,  it sounds like they're pretty convinced it was an accident which also brings me back to my first theory.

  • Hey I'm already rich, let's continue to get rich by wanting more of the company.  Sounds like a typical divorce between a married couple who has money.

I mean really, she's already worth 1.5 billion, and I'm going to guess she's still going to be shareholder.  So what more could your greedy little hands want?

  • Cheetah are you a mind reader? I asked myself the same question! How freaking greedy can a person be i just don't get it!

  • New System to Help Prevent Out of Control Gambling

As early as June 1st the first ever system will launch in Massachusetts which will limit a gambler’s betting at Plainridge Park, the slots parlor and harness racing track in Plainville. The main purpose of this program is to prevent gambler from spending beyond their means which could lead to addiction.
Marlene Warner, executive director of the Massachusetts Council on Compulsive Gambling, has been instrumental in introducing the new feature.

"It's truly a prevention tool," Warner said. "We want people to keep gambling in a way that's healthy and safe for them, so that it doesn't rise to that problematic level."

The “Play My Way” system is optional on a voluntary basis and only available after signing up for the Casino’s reward card.

Once enrolled the gambler can set their wagering limits and will receive onscreen notifications as they near that threshold. There is also an option to change their maximum betting limits and can easily unroll in the program at any time.

Some Casino operators in Massachusetts and Washington are opposed to the program arguing that these type of programs have already been tried and unsuccessful in Australia, Canada, Norway, Sweden and other countries where they've been tried.

"It's just a tool to make that person aware of what's happening and the decisions they're making." Warner said.

  • Hard Rock Chairman to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

The Hard Rock International Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Seminole Gaming James F. "Jim" Allen will be honored with the Casino Marketing & Technology Lifetime Achievement Award at the 13th annual Casino Marketing & Technology Conference taking place on July 12-14, at Paris Las Vegas.
For more than 30 years Jim’s gaming career began in Atlantic City where he worked his way up to executive at the Trump Organization in the 80’s. Other executive positions have included other top Casino groups including: Park Place Entertainment and Sun International operators of Atlantis and Mohegan Sun.

In 2001 Jim was in charge of gaming operations for the Seminole Tribe of Florida and by 2007 led the tribe's acquisition of Hard Rock International. These brands are globally recognized as he oversees cafes, hotels, casinos, memorabilia and live concerts, with 205 venues in 64 countries, including 157 cafes, 23 hotels and 11 casinos.

"We are thrilled to present this year's Lifetime Achievement Award to Jim Allen, not just for his many professional successes but his underlying work ethic, attention to detail and overall vision; a rare combination," said Randy Green, Group Publisher, BNP Media Gaming Group.

"The growth of Seminole Gaming and the Hard Rock brand in our industry did not happen by accident. As a Class II tribal gaming operator in 2001, there were no shortage of technological and regulatory hurdles to clear in Florida, and the Hard Rock brand has been leveraged strategically and with great skill. Along the way, Jim has cultivated great relationships with Seminole tribal leadership, his employees and the customers they serve."

The Sportsbook giant is among the first to offer Virtual Racing at two of their locations inside the Plaza Casino and Silver Sevens Casino, both in Las Vegas.

The famous Tom Durkin is the voice caller of simulated horse races. Sports bettors can wager on a new race every five minutes with Win, Place, Show, Exactas, and Trifectas bets on line-ups ranging from eight to twelve animated horses.

Joe Asher, CEO of William Hill US, said: “We are excited to be the first Sports Book operator to bring Virtual Racing to Nevada. The addition of Virtual Racing is just another example of how William Hill prides itself on offering the largest and most innovative betting menu. Being able to have Tom Durkin, horse racing’s best story teller, as our Virtual Racing voice is ‘absolutely sensational’ in itself.”
  • Casino Supervisor Stashes Chips in Her Bra

A supervisor at Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, took $3,000 in chips from a Craps table by hiding them in her bra.

44-year-old Brandy Micheli-Cheatham admitted to the crime and was charged with theft by unlawful taking.

The cameras recorded Brandy dropping and picking up $500 purple chips in a hallway, and placing something into her bra after entering the Casino elevator.

Didn’t she know she would never get away with it! As an employee she had to realize security is tighter than Fort Knox and you can only out fox that eye in the sky for so long!
