Brazil Sports Betting Page
Once one of the largest and most lucrative iGaming markets operating in a gray zone, Brazil today has regulated online sports betting and gambling.
In January 2025, seven years after online gambling was legalized in the country, the long-awaited betting law finally came into effect, making the Brazilian market fully operational.
Offshore websites, however, have managed to retain their popularity among local players, accounting for 30% of all betting transactions. It looks like the largest and most populous country in South America is in no hurry to abandon its diverse online gaming landscape that caters to all needs and whims.
Without a doubt, Brazil is predominantly a sports nation, hugely passionate about football in the first place. But the market has been growing fast and aggressively, with more and more punters showing interest in slots, live dealer games, and other types of casino entertainment.
Today, the country ranks fifth in the list of the world’s largest online betting markets and is widely recognized as one of the top jurisdictions in the sector. The vast majority of wagers are placed using mobile devices, which is typical for the entire LATAM region, where smartphones are often the only way to access the internet.
Legality of Sports Betting in Brazil
Even though online sports betting and gambling were legalized in Brazil in 2018, it took seven more years to create and implement a comprehensive legal framework.
Meanwhile, online sportsbooks operated without regulations, but rather than resting on their laurels, the companies kept looking for new ways to upgrade their platforms and offer players the ultimate experience. One of such enhancements was the addition of Pix to the selection of payment methods, which made things so much easier.
On December 30, 2023, the President of Brazil approved, with vetoes, Bill Nº. 3,626/23 (Law No. 14,790/23 that aimed to regulate the online sports betting (fixed-odds) and casino market, establishing the taxation of the respective activities.
The regulated market, however, was officially launched only on January 1, 2025, when licensed sportsbooks started to operate under the new bet.br domain. Offshore websites were supposed to be blocked, which proved to be no easy task. All online betting activities are overseen by the Prizes and Betting Secretariat of the Ministry of Finance (SPA/MF), the body also in charge of the licensing process.
Besides securing federal licenses, online sportsbooks should stick to strict anti-money laundering and player protection regulations. Operators must have headquarters in Brazil and, of course, pay revenue taxes, 36% of which go for the support of sports. The Law also contains requirements for technical compliance of platforms that offer betting services and casino games.
To the delight of players, Law No. 14,790/23 established a 15% tax on winnings derived from fixed-odds betting and fantasy sports, which was a substantial decrease from the initially proposed 30% Personal Income Tax (IRPF) rate.
Last but not least, for licensed operators of this jurisdiction, it is mandatory to follow the principles of responsible gambling, implementing special measures to recognize and prevent problematic gaming behaviors. All websites should offer players various responsible gambling tools such as deposit limits and self-exclusion mechanisms.
Offshore vs Legal Sportsbooks
Attracted by the unprecedented opportunities in the newly regulated online sports betting and casino market, operators flocked to the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) for licenses, which, by the way, are quite pricey.
At the end of 2024, the Ministry of Finance of Brazil shared with the public that 68 businesses had already completed full license applications, ready to operate a total of 300 unique brands after the official launch of the country’s betting market on January 1, 2025.
Of course, among the first to grab their share of the market were some of the world’s largest online gambling companies, such as Flutter Entertainment, bet365, and Entain, to cite just a few. More operators received a green light to launch with the bet.br domain in 2025, joining Brazil's ever-growing iGaming scene.
Although it is hard to compete with industry giants like SportingBet, Betfair, or Betano, offshore websites haven’t lost their charm in the eyes of local players. Bettors like having a wider selection of products; they value diversity and the possibility to choose from different options.
Offshore platforms often provide a broader range of betting options, higher odds, and, most importantly, the ability to use cryptocurrencies. Legal online sportsbooks are not allowed to support transactions with digital assets, as they are prohibited (for more details, see the Banking Methods section of the article).
From the perspective of many punters, the inability to deposit funds and withdraw winnings in Bitcoin, Tether, Ethereum, or other popular virtual currencies is a big drawback and a serious reason for opening an account at the websites regulated in Curacao and other renowned gambling jurisdictions.
In addition to that, offshore sportsbooks are a motley crew where no one is similar to another, especially when it comes to bonuses and promotions. And as we all know, the latter is a very important part of the player experience, hence very often a decisive factor when choosing an online betting platform.
Brazil Betting Markets
Without a doubt, football is the first thing that comes to one’s mind when speaking of Brazil. In this country, it is more than a national sport; it is a culture deeply rooted in people’s genes.
Football is played by everyone and everywhere, eliminating any borders – all ages and social backgrounds are welcome. Young boys aspire to be like Pele, Ronaldo, Neymar Jr., or Ronaldinho, while girls dream of becoming the second Marta Vieira da Silva.
The numbers speak for themselves: nearly 70% of Brazilians identify as football fans, while more than 85% of all wagers made at betting sites account for football matches. Naturally, there is no other sport that could be a close rival, so the remaining 15% of bets are shared between basketball, tennis, volleyball, and esports.
Here is a snapshotof the country’s most popular sports betting markets:
⚽ Football
Second to none, football is what the vast majority of sports bettors in Brazil are passionate about. 18 of 20 Serie A clubs are sponsored by well-known betting brands, the fact that speaks for itself.
Two (currently) most successful and high-value clubs are Flamengo and Palmeiras, dominating the scene and boasting a huge fan base. Among other top-tier clubs are Corinthians, São Paulo, and Atlético Mineiro.
🏀 Basketball
Basketball is the second most popular sport among bettors who are mainly interested in NBA matches. For the sake of objectivity, the NBA holds a massive share of the market worldwide due to its attractiveness and non-stop action.
🎾 Tennis
Tennis experiences an ever-growing popularity among Brazilian punters who are particularly interested in live betting. Both legal and offshore websites offer an excellent coverage of this market, helping tennis rank third for wagering volume.
🏐 Volleyball
Volleyball has always been a successful sport in Brazil; therefore, its popularity as a betting market comes as no surprise. Bets are placed on both international events and local matches, mainly on the Men’s Superliga.
🎮 Esports
Esports are booming on a global scale, but Brazil shows a huge surge in the number of bettors who place wagers on League of Legends, Counter-Strike, and similar multiplayer games added by the government in April 2025. By the way, Portuguese became the second most-watched language on Twitch, a direct proof of the country’s high demand for that kind of market.
Major Leagues, Teams, and Events
Football reigns supreme, with the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A being the top tournament when it comes to betting volume. Among other major leagues and events are the FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Champions League, Campeonato Brasileiro Série B, Copa Libertadores, Premier League, Copa do Brasil, and UEFA Europa League.
As for football teams most bet on by Brazilians, the top ten is, naturally, represented by local clubs: Flamengo, Palmeiras, Corinthians, São Paulo, Atlético Mineiro, Vasco da Gama, Grêmio, Internacional, Fluminense, and Botafogo.
Players who bet on basketball are primarily focused on two major competitions: the NBA and the top-tier domestic professional league NBB (Novo Basquete Brasil). One more tournament that also has its fans among bettors is the premier women's professional league, LBF (Liga de Basquete Feminino).
With tennis, the situation is no different from that in other countries. The largest part of the betting activities is concentrated around Grand Slams and ATP and WTA events, although ATP Challenger and ITF Futures also have their audience.
Brazilian Volleyball Superliga is the main event for local fans of volleyball, many of whom root for Sada Cruzeiro, Minas Tênis Clube, Praia Clube, and other popular clubs. One more competition that typically draws plenty of betting interest is Copa Brasil, an annual knock-out tournament, featuring the top-ranked teams from the Superliga.
Speaking of esports, the picture in Brazil does not differ much from the rest of the world, showing Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends, and Valorant as firm favorites. The presence of high-profile Brazilian teams in the aforementioned games does a significant add to the ever-growing engagement of local bettors.
Banking Methods
The selection of payment methods available to Brazilian bettors depends directly on whether they play at legal or offshore websites. The former typically offers only Pix and bank transfers, while international platforms boast a wide range of options for seamless BRL and crypto payments.
Without a doubt, Pix has no rivals when it comes to gambling transactions. Launched in 2020 by the Central Bank, this instant and free payment system became a game-changer for the whole nation, and conveniently made betting much easier and absolutely hassle-free.
On the other hand, those who want to enjoy the numerous benefits of crypto payments can do so only at offshore sportsbooks. Despite the approval of the Legal Framework of Virtual Assets in 2022, betting transactions with digital assets are prohibited. Perhaps the situation may change in the future, but the current state of affairs is that no cryptocurrencies can be used at legal betting platforms.
Bonuses
Bonuses and promotions often make the difference between whether your betting experience can be described as awesome or unimpressive. As already mentioned, the selection of perks may vary greatly from one sportsbook to another, and reading our comprehensive reviews will help you get an idea about the bonus offering of a particular website.
Below is an overview of popular sportsbook bonuses designed especially for online bettors.
- Welcome Bonus
Nowadays, it is hard to find an online sportsbook that does not offer a welcome bonus to attract new customers. Typically, it rewards the first deposit at the website and comes in the form of either extra bets or a classic deposit-match deal.
- Reload Bonus
Reloads are bonuses intended for existing users who want to make new deposits and get something extra for doing it. Most often, sportsbooks offer extra bets of a certain value, with the latter depending directly on the size of the qualifying deposit.
Always read the rules attached to such bonuses to know exactly the allowed type of bet and the minimum number of stakes that should be placed.
- Boosted Odds
A great way to multiply your winnings, this promotion is typically offered on combo bets. When a player builds a multibet comprising the required minimum number of events with the required minimum odds, the booster is activated to apply a multiplier.
- No Risk Bets
Just as its name suggests, the No Risk Bets bonus offers players an extra bet on their losses. As a rule, it is available for selected matches only, and the extra bets are subject to wagering requirements.
- Bonus for a Series of Losing Bets
Aiming to support players during unpleasant losing streaks, many online sportsbooks give them a certain PLN amount based on the total size of the bets they lost. Usually, such offers includesingle bets and accumulators, but the terms may be different at different operators.
- Cashback
One of the most beloved bonuses among players, cashback is a great way to return part of the losses and is typically credited as extra bets that may or may not be subject to wagering requirements.
- Rebate
In contrast to cashback, the rebate bonus rewards activity and does not depend on the losses. Players get a certain percentage of the total amount of bets placed the previous day, week, or month in cash.
- Loyalty Benefits
Many sportsbooks that accept players from Brazil offer loyalty programswith benefits and privileges for all registered customers. The perks may include anything from better bonuses and exclusive tournaments to tickets for popular matches and luxury sports cars.
How to Find a Good Sportsbook
With a constantly growing number of betting platforms, finding a good online sportsbook may seem like a challenging task, for newbies especially. Luckily, this is not so, and one just needs to know exactly what to look for in order to choose the right place.
Here are the key points bettors should consider if they expect nothing less than an ultimate betting experience:
🗸 License
Normally, you should start by checking the license. While legal websites are licensed by the Prizes and Betting Secretariat of the Ministry of Finance (SPA/MF), offshore operators that accept players from Brazil have to hold licenses from renowned gaming authorities as a guarantee of fair play and adherence to high standards of business ethics.
🗸 Great Odds
While all sportsbooks promote themselves as the platforms with the “best odds”, that is not always the case. Make time to compare the odds for your favorite betting markets to ensure the best return, all the more so if you use one of the popular betting systems.
🗸 Selection of Markets
Look for the sportsbooks that accept all types of bets - singles, accumulators, systems, chains, and others. The best websites offer over 30 types of markets for every event, ranging from the standard bets on the winner and totals to additional handicap bets, bets on the number of cards in a match, events to happen in a game, individual player stats, and much more.
🗸 Payment Methods and Cashout Times
Our comprehensive sportsbook reviews show you all the available banking options and indicate standard withdrawal times. Do not forget to check that information to avoid unpleasant surprises.
🗸 Advantageous Features
The best platforms are equipped with innovative features such as Early Payout, Bet Builder, and others to enhance player experience. At some websites, you will find a Bet Slip Sale feature that allows punters to get all or part of their wager straight back to their account if they don't want to wait for the bet to be settled.
🗸 Bonuses and Promotions
Betting on your favorite sports is fun, but it is so much more fun when you can benefit from lucrative bonuses and promotions. Do not be misled by big offers that look too good to be true. Instead, always carefully read the website’s general bonus terms and the terms of the specific offer to properly assess its value and know exactly whether or not it is worth claiming.
🗸 Professional Customer Support
The importance of quality customer service is hard to overestimate; therefore, make sure you will be able to get assistance the moment you need it, and not after two days. Give preference to online sportsbooks with 24/7 Live Chat and competent support agents.
