Caliente Casino - Boca del Rio Plaza

Boca del Rio is a city (and municipality) in the Mexican state of Veracruz. There’s a few things to do here, with their bars and restaurants. If you’re a seafood fan, this might be a good time to get your fill as this is a port city, and seafood is in surplus. There’s also a few attractions you may find worth checking out. To grab a bit of culture and history head on over to one of two local museums. The first is the Agustin Lara House Museum, which showcases the works of poet Agustin Lara. The museum is also called the La Casita Blanca, which translates as ‘the little white house’. The second is the Buque Canonero (literally ‘cannon ship’) Guanajuato, which is a naval museum, and actually a ship, which was restored after decommission. There’s also of course, the casino, when you decide you’d rather spend some R and R indoors gambling.

Gaming

Look for a selection of classic and video slot machines, using various denominations, as well as an assortment of table games. If you’re the type of gambler who’s more interested in betting on the horses, look to their sportsbook where you can cheer on your favourite participants. The casino runs promotions from time to time so be sure to ask staff what’s in store. They also use a player’s reward programme. Collect points which you can use for drinks and food purchases.

Hotel/Accommodations

There are no hotels on site, but if you pop on over to the shopping mall, you can find one there. The Galeria Plaza Veracruz (new as of 2005), connects to the World Trade Center and the Plaza las Americas Mall. It’s conveniently located 20 minutes from the Heriberto Jara Corona International Airport and is about 15 minutes from downtown. The Galeria Plaza Veracrus offers 196 deluxe rooms with 37 rooms as part of the Brisas Business Club floor. Rooms are equipped with air conditioning, cable tv and wireless internet access. The convention hall can accommodate up to a whopping 1700 people. Other services include a kids club, an executive lounge and 24 hour room service. There’s also a bar on site.

Dining

Enjoy breakfast buffets or a la carte items in La Terraza, indoors or on the terrace overlooking the ocean, open 7 am until 6 pm. Other breakfast venues include Gran Café de la Parroquia (ask about their scrambled eggs and salsa). For authentic Mexican cuisine try La Mulata, running 6 pm to 11 pm. For seafood, there’s El Bayo or Rio de la Plata. There’s plenty of alternate restaurants around the city or you could always grab some quick eats at one of the road-side carts.

Attractions/NightLife

Sip cocktails on the terrace at Bar Tlacotalpan, Sunday through Thursday 1 pm to midnight and Fridays and Saturdays 1 pm to 1 am, or grab a beer in Bar Titos. During days visit the museums Buque Canonero or the Agustin Lara House. If you’re visiting during end of May, beginning of June, look for the Ylang Ylang Regional Expo. Also in June is Bocafest. In July there’s the feast of Saint Ann. Another noteworthy attraction is the San Juan de Ulua Castle, once a fortress, then later, a prison.
